Seward - another exciting day!!!

We travelled to Seward early today. It's about 2 hours from Kenai on the opposite side of the Kenai Peninsula. Mark and Colleen, good friends of Kris' dad, took us sight seeing and fishing in their boat. We saw sea otters, and they were carrying their babies on their bellies. So cute!  We also saw 6 orca whales - 2 of them were babies!  Then we stopped to watch a big group of sea lions sun themselves and play in the ocean.  And we saw a huge glacier that came right up to the water at Holgate Cove (Holgate Glacier). We watched as chunks of glacier fell, and it made a sound like thunder. There were big chunks of ice floating in the water all around us.  Then we went fishing - caught a lingcod and a halibut and a coho salmon, but they were all too small to keep. It was a great day!!!  Thank you Mark, Colleen and Chuck for making it happen!  They even modified their boat so I could ride in the cabin!!!

  1. Oh my goodness you are at it again. You can cram so much into a day!
You have seen so much wildlife. Very neat to see the otters...just adorable..and the sunning sea lions...but wow to see the orcas...that is special.
I actually have been to Seward...we were on a cruise up the coast...and have been in front of that same glacier. Amazing to hear it calve...just like thunder...and I was struck by the stunning colour of blue that the ice had! That is a wonderful photo of all of you in front of the glacier. Nice to see Mom is actually there..ha.
You certainly caught a variety of fish...shame they were too small.
What a wonderfult trip you are having!
